Munnar

M unnar is a picturesque scope of the lofty Western Ghats. Munnar first came into prominence as a favorite summer resort of the British government. The town of Munnar stands at the confluence of three mountain streams. Come to Munnar. Go trekking. Go boating. Go riding. Go angling. Or just laze about and fill your soul with peace in Munnar.

Munnar - breathtakingly beautiful - a haven of peace and tranquillity - the idyllic tourist destination in God's own country. Set at an altitude of 6000 ft in Idukki district, Munnar was the favoured summer resort of the erstwhile British rulers in the colonial days. Unending expanse of tea plantations - pristine valleys and mountains- exotic species of flora and fauna in its wild sanctuaries and forests - aroma of spice scented cool air - yes! Munnar has all these and more. It's the place you would love to visit - it's the place you would wish never to leave

Munnar is situated at the confluence of three mountain streams namely Mudrapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundala.

Munnar hill station, located at an altitude of 1600 m above sea level, was once the summer resort of the erstwhile British government in South India. Sprawling tea plantations, picture book towns, winding lanes and holiday facilities make this a popular resort town. Among the exotic flora found in the forests and grasslands is the 'Neelakurinji'.

This flower which bathes the hills in blue every twelve years will bloom next in 2006 AD. Munnar also has the highest peak in south India, Anamudi, which towers over 2695 m. Anamudi is an ideal spot for trekking.
